How to make your own levels
Hi!
You can make your own levels for Caw Across Time using the external level editor, Level Designer's Toolkit (LDtk).
All the levels in the game are made with this program, and stored in "Caw Across Time/data/ldtk".
You can easily add your own by editing levels_custom.ldtk, and the game will load them automatically.
Also, you can look at the existing levels for examples on how to use all the mechanics.
The game loads all .ldtk files that are listed in "directory.json", and levels marked as "LevelSelectable" in the editor will appear in the level select screen.
Level making notes:
- Every level should have 1 Player_start, which is where the player appears at the beginning of the level.
- Every level should probably have at least 1 Paradox_door, this is the exit, that opens when there are no paradoxes. Paradox Blocks are blocks that work similarly, and you can reverse their behavior.
- Buttons and Levers have a little popup when they are selected, to set what objects they activate.
- On the DecorationTiles layer, there is currently just 1 tile for defining where wires will be placed.
- The PointMarker object is just used for development, and the BackgroundWall layer is unused.
Have fun! And be sure to back up your level file somewhere!
